Here are a few examples of how I can help: As an MP I deal with a wide variety of issues and it can sometimes be difficult for constituents to. I want to ensure that I do all that I can to make this a little clearer for you and therefore please see below some examples of ways in which I can help:
Local Statistics and InformationI want to make sure that information about the area in which we live is easily accessible for my constituents. Please find below some of the key issues in the area and the statistics relevant to these. If you want to know more you can access all of the information at: Unemployment in our constituency: The percentage of the working age population not in work, calculated as the economically inactive plus the unemployed. It includes students, people who do not want to work, and the early retired. Changes in this are estimated by people claiming DWP Income benefits. Source: TVU
Education - Examination Results gained by Year 11 (aged 16) pupils resident in each ward whichever Tees Valley LEA school they attend. 'Half' GCSE results are included. Equivalent GCSE results are also included where pupils gain GNVQ qualifications at school. National Results are for England not GB. My Weekly DiaryWeek beg 31st August 2010 I have been enjoying some holiday time with my family for the past 2 weeks before recess is over and I am back in Parliament, however work really does never stop. I set aside 2 full days in between my holidays to catch up on my work in the constituency and on Thursday 26th I attended numerous meetings in and around the constituency as well as setting aside time to reply to constituents. The big news really came though during a phone call late Friday morning whilst I was in my office with news of the sale of Corus. I was absolutely ecstatic to hear this news after all the hard work that myself and other people have put in to ensuring a future for the steel works on Teesside. I couldn't be happier that SSI have decided to ahead with the purchase and after my impressive meeting with them in Thailand earlier this year I am happy that they are the right company to get the industry up and running again for Redcar. After word of the sale got out to the press my day was completely taken over with telephone, radio and television interviews and it really was a positive day for the area. The steel industry pumps life in to the area and I just hope now that things can move along quickly to a conclusion. Once pen has been put to paper on that dotted line I think Redcar can finally breathe a sigh of relief and really celebrate this fabulous news. . Last week I also had a meeting with Barclays Bank who came to me with the good news that they have £1 million to pay out in credit to help local businesses. This will be extremely beneficial to businesses in the area and can only be good news for Redcar and any local businesses that may need financial help. On the topic of local businesses I also managed to catch up with a local businessman to find out how he is progressing and to see if there is anything more I can do to help him with his venture. I can't forget to mention the Brotton by-election that took place last week. I will take this opportunity to say well done to everyone involved for their hard work especially Val Miller. My office has been recruiting for a Constituency Organiser for the past couple of weeks and we have received a fantastic number of applications. I am very much looking forward to interviewing for the post at the beginning of next week and for anyone attending these interviews - Good Luck! I arrive back from my family holiday towards the back end of this week and I will be straight back into work on Saturday (4th) morning with 2 advice surgeries. These are to be held in Redcar Library (9.30 - 10.30am) and Grangetown Library (11.15-12noon). I always look forward to meeting my constituents face to face at surgeries so I am looking forward to this My work in the areaPlease find below an interactive map that will allow you to track my work in the area.
